SHORT PROGRAMME FOR SCULPTURE COURSES
The goal of the courses consists in providing the student with TECHNICAL workmanship and the familiarity in applying it: factors, these, indispensable to translate into a modeled form , as dictated by the individual student’s artistic desires.
A work plan will be established for each student at the studio, taking into consideration whether or not it is the student's first experience with sculpture (Course option A), or whether he/she already has some experience in the artistic field or with craftsmanship (Course options B/C). Outline of courses:
-A- basic training for beginners.
This course will invite students to acquire basic skills, and become aware of and gain confidence with the selected material, whether it be marble, clay, wood, or other substance.
For example, if the student chooses the marble course he/she will select the most suitable piece of marble and learn to position it correctly on a support during the working phase, He/she will develop an adequate understanding of the tools and their maintenance by their use in the different phases of working the stone. From the choice of marble, the student proceed to the polishing stage, in the process developing patience and perseverance in working method.
It's in the basic course that the student measures his/her capacity to learn, but above all he/she discovers a way to defeat " the fear of not being able " to realize own dreams. The student will be able to elaborate the work of art while practicing the applying of acquired techniques, allowing for the emergence of his/her creativity through the material.
-B- Courses for specialization or to widen one's knowledge, (for students who already possess basic training).
In this course, a work plan will be elaborated that satisfies the student's requests, while taking into consideration the expressive technical capacity and the artistic sensitivity of the student. The teacher, from the beginning, will evaluate the student’s knowledge and proceed to teach on that basis.
The student may request a course where air or mechanical tools are used. The option of using disk-cutting machines will be left to the teacher’s discretion.
-C- Courses for special stone and marble techniques (professionals in the artistic sector).
This course for teaching particular techniques, such as pointing technique, enlargement with compasses, will be held only by request.
A minimum of two students will be required for enlargement with compasses technique. Practicing is usually carried out by utilizing a model of a head or bust.
In case course C resulting work will remain in the ownership of the studio.
. Each single course, (usually divided into periods of two weeks) may consist of the presence of students from group A,B,C (or of the contemporary presence of sculptor-renters). In spite of this, the teacher will always attend to the needs of each individual course member.
- In case the student chooses wood, clay or other, the course will be held if there is a people enrolled.
- Each course may be held, therefore, even with just one student (except in the cases mentioned before).
- At the end of the course, if requested, a certificate of attendance may be issued.
This certificate is not a recognized educational qualification and cannot contribute towards a teaching post or professional qualification.
