Who we are
In 1990 the sculptor Romhein Boutros, following this tradition opened the doors of his studio to welcome anyone who desired to sculpt. Today, Boutros has years of experience in teaching both the ancient and modern techniques of working in marble, wood, stone and clay.
At our workshop, through a direct relationship with the sculptor/teacher, students develop the skills to manage the material technically in order to work out idea thoughts and ideas in the process of becoming a creator of his/her own images.
The Studio Arco Arte continues to unroll its mission of training, look at the development step by step a ideal place for meeting, learning, growth and exchange.
In the city of Carrara, with its romantic primitivism, you will experience the poetry of time standing still. This is a territory linked historically to mining and marble workmanship, the eternal material that has enriched human civilization and even today retains its undiminished fascination.
Carrara: where major artists throughout history have trained and worked, attracted by the availability of marble and skilled artisans, and where during the centuries the capacity to use other materials related to sculpture, such as stone, clay, plaster and wood, have been developed.
MARBLE It is undeniable that whoever turns to us , or Carrara's territory, directs his/her curiosity and attention principally to MARBLE.
Marble: calcareous metamorphic rock, formed during the Jurassic geological period……….
But also Marble is a word that has become synonymous with sculpture, monument and, more commonly, with any type of tombstone.
By comparison with other materials used in the arts, marble is regarded, even in the twentieth century, as one of the worthiest of media for artistic expression.
- This can be seen in its unequalled energy and capacity to transmit sensations, whether its used by itself or in combination with other materials, (such as glass, wood, stone, cloth, colour or……….).
-The types of “Carrara marble” are varied: from Bianco P, to Statuary, veined statuary to Calacata and Ordinary gray, with all its different variations of veining, colour and characteristics.
Regardless of its application, especially in sculpture, every single piece of marble constitutes a unique exemplary. Similarly, every item made by the hand and mind of the artist, using marble as the material, is also unique.
In the end, however, marble only offers its true beauty when it is moulded and carved with technical skill and respect. And it is just this that the teacher/sculptor will teach and pass on to you at Arco Arte.
